another zombie revival/I get interviewed/from my website

Sep. 16th, 2012 | 10:52 am

I didn't mention this here, but yesterday I talked to Tom Racine of Tall Tale Radio for his mega-long video livestream as part of his campaign to raise money and awareness about the podcast and raise some $$$ for gear upgrades and whatnot. He deserves it, creating one of my favorite podcasts and is a funny guy and excellent interviewer.

If you scroll through to about 5:19:00, you can get to me (that's 5 hours in!), but honestly the whole thing is up and good, Tom is a rad dude with a rad podcast. My Skype connection was awful, but you can still hear me talk about getting into comics, webcomics, writing, the books, and being Greek. I ramble quite a bit...

zombie mode and a new book!

You can get my e-book short story collection, RUNNING THE TRAIN...AND OTHER STORIES, featuring my PI/bondsman character Ben Miles, here at Smashwords. I'm stoked about this project and plan on continuing to work with the character a lot more in prose, so please check it out, get a copy (it's a dollar for a variety of digital download options), and spread the word!

LiveJournal Is F**king Dead

Aug. 22nd, 2011 | 09:26 pm

...long live other stuff.

I'm keeping this LJ account to view and comment on other people's stuff, but for the most part I'm sick of LiveJournal. Official blogposts and announcements are going to post at my "official" site, and I'll be treating my Tumblr blog as an informal worklog. There's too much wonkiness with LiveJournal, even compared to Tumblr.

And of course, I'm blowin' up on Twitter, as the kids say.  Peace out, see you guys around.

Introducing "The Wall"

Aug. 19th, 2011 | 04:51 pm

I did this as a possible one-page contribution for an anthology, no one got back to me, decided it wasn't up to print standards, but still wanted to finish it. Doing large-space backgrounds by hand is still something I'm not good at, at all. Let's consider this one-page horror/humor an experiment.

Yeah, I know that the edges of the Bristol are visible from the scan, couldn't get rid of those. I trimmed it sloppily.

Most of this was inked with a brush, and only a few little things like the background done with a pen. I know I'm pretty rusty with the Pentel, I think I'm doomed to always be a tech pen guy. Still, I like to try new stuff when it comes to making comics.

Hope you guys enjoy it!

We're talking about reading

Aug. 12th, 2011 | 01:21 pm

I figure it's monumental enough to mention, but there are now TWO new essays up at THE COMIC BOOK AS THE IDEAL IN STORYTELLING, a blog of academically-minded essays on comics. Considering there were a few months in between the first two or three posts, I'm considering this a personal milestone.

Check it out, I talk about "Calvin and Hobbes," as well as "Essex County." Previous entries are about "Ghost In The Shell" and "Stone Soup."
